Moises Kaufman’s drama draws on the reaction to the hate crime killing of gay college student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming, in 1998.  The ensemble of actors portray more than 60 characters in this often-controversial production.

What happens after Pinocchio gets his wish and turns into a real boy?  This family-oriented first of two White Rabbit musical productions (Comic Book Artist isn’t a musical) in our season reveals how Geppetto must learn to become a real father to his new son.  The music and lyrics are written by Stephen Schwartz, best known for the Broadway phenomenon Wicked.

Oscar Wilde’s comedy of mistaken identities and deflated Victorian pomposity remains popular, well over 100 years after it was first performed.  No one is quite who they seem to be in this witty farce.

Newly available to community theater, Jonathan Larson’s rock musical is winning a new generation of fans, most born long after the late ‘80s, where Rent’s young bohemian artists struggle to make it in New York City in the age of AIDS.  Based on Puccini’s La Boheme, the musical was made into a popular film in 2005.  Larson, though, did not live to see its success; he died suddenly the night before its off-Broadway premiere.

 


 

The Foreigner

The title character of Larry Shue’s comedy is no foreigner at all, but Charlie Baker is so shy and reserved that he simply cannot speak to others.  His friend, Froggy, covers for Charlie by claiming that he is indeed from a foreign land and does not speak English at all.  As a result, all the other characters speak freely around Charlie, unwittingly letting him in on all of their secrets

Character actor George Furth wrote the book, while the legendary Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd, West Side Story) provided the music and lyrics for this series of vignettes surrounding perpetually-single Bobby, his girlfriends, his married friends, and his fear of commitment.
